San Diego product liability lawyers, we know that consumers often have a difficult time keeping up with the
number of product safety recalls issued every year. This is understandable
given that over 1,000 toys, drugs, cars, and household products are recalled
We often use this San Diego Injury Blog to share the largest and most dangerous
recalls. However, we can’t possible cover all of them. Therefore,
we would like to share some important resources for monitoring the safety
of the products you and your family use everyday.
Consumer retail products: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission lists recall information for
children’s products, including clothing and toys, household products
and appliances, exercise and sports equipment, outdoor products, and furniture.
The CPSC database is searchable by date, product, product category, and
company. You can also sign up for alerts in certain product categories.
The website is available here:
Motor vehicles: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S.
Department of Transportation provides recall information for motor vehicles,
motorcycles child safety seats, and tires. The campaigns include motor
vehicle products that experienced a safety-related defect or did not comply
with federal motor vehicle safety standards. The NHTSA also allows consumers
to sign up for email alerts here:
Food: Food safety falls under the jurisdiction of several government agencies,
including the Food and Drug Administration, Food and Safety Inspection
Services, Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention. Therefore, the federal government has
established a centralized website to keep the public informed about food
safety information, including recalls. Alerts are available at
http://www.foodsafety.gov/recalls/alerts. The site also offers a smartphone app.
Medical drugs and devices: The Food and Drug Administration oversees drugs, vaccines, medical devices
and other health care products. Dietary supplements and cosmetics also
fall under the agency’s purview. Patients can sign up for alerts
by visiting http://www.fda.gov and selecting FDA Recall Email Alert.
