Auto Recalls Now Available on Smart Phones

Want to find out if your vehicle is subject to a recall? There’s an app for that.

The National Highway Transportation Administration recently released a mobile application called SaferCar. Among other valuable safety information, the app puts vehicle recall information at your fingertips.

“Safety is our highest priority, and we’re always working to find new and better ways for people to access SaferCar,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. “This app takes advantage of the latest technology to ensure that consumers have the real-time information they need to buy safe, drive safe and stay safe.”

With regard to vehicle recalls, consumers can register their vehicles to be notified by NHTSA if a safety issue is discovered. The app also makes it simple to submit complaints to NHTSA regarding possible safety problems with a particular vehicle. Users can also receive important news and information from NHTSA, search its 5-Star Safety Ratings for vehicles by make and model, and locate car seat installation help

The free application is currently only available for iPhones and iPad devices. However, the NHTSA indicates that efforts to release a version for Android phones and tablets is underway.
